We believe all children need to connect with nature.
Serves 2,500 youth a year
Farrington Nature Linc’s mission is to enhance the well-being of children from low-income communities through a connection with the natural world. Their 75 acres of woodlands, fields and ponds near Boston are dedicated to providing respite and inspiration for children who might not otherwise have this opportunity.
They give kids access to nature in three ways:
Field trips on their property in Lincoln, MA where they host visits by groups of children from Boston, Cambridge, and other neighboring urban communities for a day of exploration, learning, and fun.
After-school programs that connect youth with nature near their school one day a week for 8 week cycles.
And a Teen Leadership program where they hire teens from the communities they serve to help run their summer field trip program and provide them opportunities throughout the school year to become leaders in their community.
In all of their programs, youth are given the chance to have fun engaging and nature, be creative and learn how to take appropriate risks. They learn to see themselves in a new way- braver, stronger and more sure of themselves.
Created 2,076 individual youth experiences in nature and had 12,951 youth contact hours
Engaged 665 youth on their property for day long adventures of hiking, ponding, gardening and meeting farm animals. They hosted 6 overnights for groups who desired a longer, more immersive experience including a campfire and night in a tent under the stars.
During the two school vacation weeks (April and February), they hosted 8 groups with a total of 245 children, and had 528 youth contacts through their Explore after-school locations.
